Black House Down

Last weekend we took the kids sledding on a hill in front of one of Ellsworth's few "tourist" attractions, Woodlawn Museum - a.k.a. The Black House.

Woodlawn is a 180-acre historic estate located a quarter mile from downtown.  Once home to three generations of the John Black family, it is now treasured for its historic house museum, its community gardens, its regulation croquet course (the only one in the state), its public park with 3 miles of hiking trails and, of course, it's sledding hill.

Throughout the summer (mostly) there are a number of community events which take place on its grounds. Gardening classes, dog training, croquet lessons, bird watching, jewelry making workshops, butterfly hunting,
star gazing, drawing & painting studios, antique shows, and much, much more.

However, the only thing on our agenda for this sunny winter day was sledding. The kids had a blast, and I didn't kill myself. So, it was a win-win!
